Once you decide to start sewing, you will begin a never-ending search for supplies to satisfy your creative needs. I have complied a list of suppliers and shops that I use regularly and think are worth visiting.
Machine and Machine parts
I use a Brother sewing machine. You can purchase machines, attachments and machine parts directly from the Brother Office in TST.
Brother TST Office Center:
Unit 620-622 & 626, 6th Floor, Ocean Centre, 5 Canton Road, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon, H.K.
Office Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am ~ 6:00pm except public holiday
If you want to use other brands such as Juki or Singer you can visit Tung Shing in Sham Shui Po. They not only sell machine, machine parts and machine accessories, but also scissors, rulers and other bits. They are definitely worth a visit.
They also have a great Scissor Sharpening Service. I sharpened my scissors there for 83 dollars a pair in June 2013. They came back super sharp and well oiled.
They even have some Clover sewing products.
Tung Shing Sew Machine Company
G/F, Tung Shing Building, 61-65 Nam Cheong Street Sham Shui Po
(this place takes credit card)
Most places in Sham Shui Po sell wholesale. That means you have to buy a whole bolt (roll) or more than 5 yards. But there are some places where you can buy fabric by the yard. The best and most friendly place is Moon Yue Piece Goods.
Moon Yue Piece Goods
1/F, 125-127 Yu Chau Street, Sham Shui Po
They have every price range, wool to cotton and silk. The Raffles students and teachers (even from Singapore) come to this shop to buy fabric. They are great.
Ki Lung Street in Sham Shui Po has market stalls where you can buy fabric by the yard, but the choices are rather more limited. However, there is still a lot to look at. Many of the stalls also have fabric stored nearby, so if you as you might find what you are looking for it is not right there.
If you don’t mind buying 5 yards of fabric, feel free to pop into the shops along the streets. You have to pay up-front and wait a few days for them to bring the fabric down from their warehouses. Orders normally arrive within 5 days.
This lady has all kinds of thread including specialty threads for swimwear and lingerie, embroidery thread, elastic threads and metallic threads. You can buy small spools starting from 2 HKD.
G/F, Shop No. 6, Yau Nam Mansion, 97 Nam Cheong Street, Sham Shui Po

There is a guy on with a street stall. He is really fantastic. He has all kinds of filler and foam, quilting filler, paper interfacing and fusible interfacing. Cheap.

Woven or Printed labels
If you are doing fabric crafts you might like to add labels to your products. You can get these labels made in Sham Shui Po too. You can go to their shop and see what they can do. Then send them a file pdf or ai over email. They will some mock-ups first. Takes 10 days because they are printed in China.
Mei Shing Company
G/F, 164D, Yu Chau Street, Sham Shui Po
This place has a lot to look at with all kinds of elastic binding, lace binding, and even tassels. The ladies there are rather helpful too if you have questions about how to use their products. They will sell you in yardage or whole rolls. They also have a large outside rummage bin area. Selling odd pieces for cheap. Always good to have a pick through these.
Hong Kong Johnson Lace Co. Ltd.
G/F, No 230, Ki Lung Street, Sham Shui Po
Most of these shops are in the same area. There are so many places in between that will also catch your eye. From beads to lace to buttons and thread—Sham Shui Po is the place to go.
